Boston By Boat
Named the Massachusetts River by Captain John Smith, 15-year old Prince Charles renamed it for himself in 1615. He would never be known for his tact.
When Charles ascended the throne in 1625, the Puritans feared he would restore Catholicism in the Church of England. His marriage to Henrietta Maria of France didn't help. Attempts to impose uniformity within the Church and the dissolution of Parliament in 1629 led to the Great Migration where many Puritans sought a new life in Massachusetts.
The split between the King and Parliament led to the English Civil War. In 1649, Charles was captured, tried, convicted, and beheaded for high treason. Eleven years later he was canonized by the Church of England.
