The perfect introduction to the history of Boston.
This walking tour of the Freedom Trail in downtown Boston begins with the establishment of Boston in 1630. The story of Boston is told while experiencing architecture spanning more than 3 centuries. The story begins with the Puritan settlement, continues through the American Revolution and the growth of commercial Boston, to present day.
The mix of 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st century buildings in downtown Boston creates an eclectic architectural mixture.
This historic walk features many of the downtown Freedom Trail sites including the Old State House, Faneuil Hall, King's Chapel, Old South Meeting House and the site of the first public school in America.
The Declaration of Independence was read aloud in Boston from the balcony of the Old State House July 18, 1776. Every Independence Day a crowd gathers around the Old State House to hear it again.
One of the many sites you will see on our Freedom Trail tour.
From the protests of Samuel Adams and James Otis, to the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party, to the liberation of Boston in 1776 by General Washington and his army, the Heart of The Freedom Trail takes you to the sites and tells the stories that led to American independence.
John Adams called Faneuil Hall The Cradle of Liberty. It is here the likeness of his cousin is placed, in a pose of protest. Beneath it is inscribed Father of the American Revolution.
Our Freedom Trail tours start in front of this statue.
