Interested in becoming a Boston By Foot guide? Docent training occurs every Spring. As a guide-in-training you will receive the background, materials, and mentorship under experienced docents to lead informed, insightful, and interesting guided walks of Boston.

Guides are expected to complete a 6-week training course that includes lectures, field trips, written papers and even a final exam.

Don't let this discourage you! Hundreds of docents have survived it over the past 33 years. All will say that this only marked the beginning of a learning process and that they never walk down a street the same way again.

All Boston By Foot guides lead a minimum of six tours each year, but many of our guides do many more and also get more involved with research, designing new tours, and planning events.

To find out more information about joining us as a volunteer guide or the Spring Lecture Series, drop us a line and we'll be happy to talk with you about it.
