Boston By Foot Steps Out With New Director

BOSTON, Mass., November 24, 2007 - Boston By Foot, Inc. has hired a new Executive Director ushering in a new era of growth and development for this non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the architecture and history of Boston.

Beacon Hill resident Mary Fichtner was officially welcomed at the 31st Annual Boston By Foot Awards Reception held at the Old South Meeting House on November 7. Prior to arriving at Boston By Foot Fichtner managed the Hurst Gallery in Cambridge, MA which specializes in antiquities and artifacts from around the world. In 2001, Fichtner founded and managed the Ragged Edge Gallery in Gettysburg, PA.

"We are thrilled to welcome Mary. She brings with her a wonderful infusion of youth, energy and a passion for Boston," said Polly Flansburgh, president and founder of Boston By Foot. "The timing perfectly coincides with our new affiliation with the Boston Society of Architects."

Earlier this year, Boston By Foot and the Boston Society of Architects entered into a formal agreement to collaborate on the further development and growth of the organization. The Boston Society of Architects is the largest chapter of the American Institute of Architects. This collaboration has led to the establishment of an Executive Director position as well as a larger, more formal Board of Trustees to act as Boston By Foot's governing body.

"I am thrilled to join Boston By Foot at this decisive time," said Fichtner. "It is an honor to be working with such an established organization and I hope to bring fresh ideas for marketing and recruitment."

Fichtner earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Gettysburg College. She received a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, concentrating in part on Boston architecture.
