Boston By Foot Begins 2007 Season
BOSTON, Mass., April 17, 2007 - Boston By Foot, Inc. announces the beginning of its 32nd regular tour season beginning May 1, 2007. The season includes scheduled daily tours and a selection of special holiday and monthly tours.
Changes to the Regular Schedule
The Victorian Back Bay tour is now also offered on Monday evenings in addition to Friday and Sunday mornings. "This change compliments the Beacon Hill tours that we also offer in the evenings during the week," said Veronika McDonald King, Program Coordinator for Boston By Foot. "This gives a chance for people to attend after work or before enjoying dinner in one of Boston's many fine Back Bay restaurants."
An additional Sunday tour of the North End was added in response to growing attendance. "Now that the North End is more accessible with the tearing down of the I-93 artery, more people are re-discovering the neighborhood that gives us a view of Boston spanning almost four centuries," according to senior docent Tom Coppeto. "The North End significantly shaped this nation by providing America with its first neighborhood, playing a major role in the American Revolution, and housing waves of immigrants through its history."
Special Tours
Boston By Foot launches a new lineup of monthly tours for 2007. The May 27 tour focuses on Art Deco architecture in Boston. In anticipation of the opening of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway this year, Boston By Foot will showcase this new public space on a greenway tour offered on Aug. 26. Other returning monthly tours include the Bulfinch Triangle (June 24), Harvard Yard (June 29) and Historic Roxbury (Sept. 30).
Big Foot
The annual tour of tours is the 5 hour Labor Day Big Foot tour. Like the monthly tours, this extended tour is planned and researched by the Boston By Foot docents a year in advance. This year's Big Foot will present Boston's Back Bay through its evolution from the swampy Charles River Basin to a showcase of the finest Victorian buildings and mansions of Boston's elite to its contemporary mix of business, shopping and luxury living. The filling of Boston's Back Bay took 30 years to complete and was the greatest public works project of its time.
